RYAN GREGG, A RHYTHM & ROOTS PIANO PLAYER WITH A FLAIR FOR THEATRICS, RELEASES HIS DEBUT EP, “HUSTLING IN PLACE.”

  • “Hustling in Place,” Ryan’s debut EP, is everywhere July 26th, 2024

  • “Ryan is timeless!” - Oteil Burbridge (Grammy award winning musician, The Allman Brothers Band, Dead & Co, etc)

  • “Intimate songwriting and performance at it’s finest” - Jimmy Rector

DATE (Asbury Park, NJ) - “Hustling In Place,” the debut solo album from piano player and singer-songwriter Ryan Gregg, is out everywhere July 26th, 2024. The album – which teams  roots-rock performances with a contemplative, timely story – marks the first time Ryan has put himself out there with just himself and his piano, a longtime musician making his first trek into solo artistry.

Super Duper Big Deal Productions, an independent production company managed in-part by Gregg, handles production and promotion for the release.

“Every day the center drifts a bit. Never really get the hang of it. Maybe life will never be what it was,” Ryan ponders in the opening lyric of the title track. The stanza closes with, “The ground keeps on shifting, I try to keep pace, but it feels like I’m hustling in place.”

Explaining the record, Gregg said: “Each of the songs tell a different part of my story, and features many musical styles, from rhythm and blues to more contemporary Americana.”

A consummate entertainer, Gregg channels his one-of-a-kind approach to songwriting and showmanship on “Hustling In Place.” Gregg is a melting pot of influences, most notably New Orleans piano legend Dr. John, vaudevillian storyteller Tom Waits, and expert penman Randy Newman.

Gregg’s work as a bandleader, music director, and session musician have made him a regular in a number of projects and a staple of the Asbury Park Music scene and beyond.  Alongside his work as a solo artist and band member, he’s collaborated or performed with Eric Lindell, Dana Fuchs, J.T. Bowen, Roosevelt Collier, Oteil Burbridge, The Lee Boys, Scott Sharrard, "Stormin" Norman Seldin, The Ocean Avenue Stompers, Melody Trucks, and many others.

“Ryan is timeless,” said Oteil Burbridge, bass player for Dead & Co and previously the Allman Brothers.

He continues to write and play solo, as well as with The Ocean Avenue Stompers, a New Orleans inspired horn and soul band performing regularly on the Jersey Shore and beyond.

His plan is to one day turn his EP into a musical, maybe something with puppets.
